Once your children are old enough to watch you designing jewelry, they may show interest in trying to create some themselves. One of the easiest ways to get your child started in jewelry making is with beading. This is simple yet creative enough for them to learn and enjoy. To begin with your children may enjoy simply making necklaces. The nice thing about this is that they can choose the beads they want to use, as well as the type of cord. As a jewelry designer you'll probably be able to make some suggestions along the way in regards to what types of materials they should use. While this is fine, what you don't want to do is create the piece for them. Remember, there's a fine line between helping and doing. Allow your child to do but be there to help.
After your child gets good at beading, you can move on to something smaller such as making a beaded pendant. This simply involves placing beads on a large safety-pin. What's nice about this is that your child can now start using things like dangles to the middle of them, thus growing accustomed to working with more materials.
